WEST VALLEY CITY — Police here have hired a new member of the force.

Copper will be the police department's first-ever bloodhound. The 11-week-old dog will be used to track suspects that flee crime scenes on foot, police said.

The West Valley City K-9 Unit currently has four dogs, used for narcotics detection and criminal apprehension. Copper will be fully deployed in the spring of 2009.
