A motorcyclist was flown to the hospital and was undergoing surgery Wednesday night after colliding with a car.
The man, 19, was riding east on Dimple Dell Road when a woman in a Mercedes SUV made a left turn out of a neighborhood, near 2200 East, in front of the bullet bike, said Salt Lake County Sheriff's Lt. Jason Johnson.
The cyclist crashed into the rear passenger side of the car.
Police were called just after 5:15 p.m. and the man was flown to a nearby hospital, Johnson said.
"He was wearing a helmet or there would have no doubt been a fatality," he said. "Still, it's not looking good."
No citations were issued Wednesday. Investigators were still piecing together the details of the accident. Witnesses said the motorcycle may have been speeding as it passed another car on the road, Johnson said.
The driver of the SUV was not injured.
