Two escape serious injury in Davis plane crash
About 5:30 p.m., an instructor and a student took off from Skypark Airport, 1887 S. 1800 West and got about 100 feet in the air before their Cessna 172 started losing power, said Woods Cross police officer James Sheldon.
The trainee, 51, piloted the plane during takeoff, but the instructor, 32, took the controls when the engine failed.
The pilot attempted to land the plane in a field, away from people and buildings, Sheldon said. As it touched down, the plane hit a patch of soft mud, causing it to go end over end. The two men inside suffered only bruising and minor injuries.
