PROVO The Utah Department of Transportation said it is considering installing a school crosswalk instead of the traffic signal concerned parents are calling for along Geneva Road.
UDOT officials recently completed a study of the intersection at 1390 N. Geneva Road and determined the intersection does not meet requirements for a traffic signal. Parents of about 100 elementary students in the Reese Estates and Whisper Woods subdivision have previously voiced concerns about their children crossing the road to reach Lakeview Elementary at 1390 N. 2950 West just a few blocks west of Geneva Road.
Instead, UDOT officials said in a letter, they will consider installing a school crosswalk with a reduced-speed school zone across the state road. They also said they will conduct another traffic-signal study this fall when school starts and traffic to and from the school will be highest.
