VERNAL — Bear sightings in the Ashley National Forest have prompted a warning for recreationists to be on alert.

The U.S. Forest Service said there have been black bear sightings in Whiterocks Canyon, near the Bowden Draw/Greens Draw area and near the Louis Swett Ranch in the Flaming Gorge area.

"These have only been sightings at this point and they have not been determined to be nuisance bears," Louis Haynes with the Ashley National Forest said in a statement.
