Despite a recent Deseret News editorial, congestion pricing is a bad idea. This concept charges drivers more for using certain lanes during busy hours. Sen. Howard Stephenson, R-Draper, is pushing this concept, along with expanding HOV/HOT lanes to two, claiming we should "give people free-market choices when they use the highway."
Senator, true free market doesn't consist of carefully crafted government options. People already make free-market choices when they drive. They already know that if they must drive during rush hour, they'll have to take more time and buy more gas.
Fortunately, UDOT is not considering the idea. Hopefully, Sen. Stephenson will have the good sense to drop it as well.
