The Utah Highway Patrol plans to reopen three lanes of southbound I-15 in Salt Lake County within the hour after a fuel spill caused a closure for most of the afternoon.
About 1:30 p.m., debris punctured a semitrailer's fuel tank near 7500 South and a large amount of fuel spilled on the road until the driver pulled off the freeway near 9000 South, said Utah Highway Patrol trooper Cameron Roden.
Three lanes of traffic were expected to be closed until about 4:30 p.m. while crews used sand to clean up the mess, he said. The closure backed up traffic past 4500 South.
