Lots of field trips offered for watching birds
Beginning birders are welcome. Car-pooling is encouraged, and contributions toward gas money are appreciated. Suggested amount is $3 for local trips under 40 miles round trip, or $5 for longer trips.
Call the trip leader to confirm the meeting place for each date, as highway construction may impact plans.
• Saturday, July 12, 8 a.m.-noon, Brighton Bird Count. Meet at 8 a.m. at the top of Big Cottonwood Canyon in the parking lot adjacent to the Silver Lake Visitors Center. Birders can select one of three birding options, an easy, moderate or strenuous walk. A potluck lunch will follow at noon. To car-pool, meet in the parking lot at the mouth of Big Cottonwood Canyon by 7:30 a.m. Call Jeanne LeBer or Ray Smith at 532-7384.
• Friday, July 18, 7:30 a.m., Canyon Walks, Little Cottonwood Canyon. Meet at the Little Cottonwood Canyon park and ride lot by 7:30 a.m. for walking and birding from the Albion Basin Campground. Call Roberta Wherritt, 274-3058.
• Wednesday, July 30, 7 a.m., Farmington Bay and nearby area. Meet inside the McDonald's just north of the Centerville exit from I-15 at 7 a.m. for breakfast and camaraderie or 7:30 a.m. to head out. Call Deedee O'Brien, 272-8060.
• Wednesday, Aug. 6, 7 a.m., Mountain Dell Recreation Area, Parleys Canyon. Meet by 7 a.m. in the parking lot just west of REI on 33OO South and 3285 East. Call Jack Clark, 255-7989 or Sylvia Gray, 532-3486.
• Saturday, Aug. 9, 8 a.m., birding in Tabiona. Meet in the southeast corner of the Sugar House ShopKo parking lot by 8 a.m. Lunch will be provided, so reservations are essential. Call Pat Jividen, 944-5001, or Sylvia, 532-3486, for information.
