Cyclist injured when he crashes into deer

BIG COTTONWOOD CANYON — A bicyclist was flown to a nearby hospital Friday evening after crashing into a deer.

The 30-year-old man was riding near 11000 East and Big Cottonwood Canyon Road when he crashed into the animal at about 8:20 p.m., according to Salt Lake County sheriff's dispatchers.

The man was wearing a helmet, which shattered during the collision. He was listed in critical condition.

A helicopter landed in the area at about 9 p.m. to transport him to a hospital.
