PROVO Lehi Police Capt. Harold Terry is still in the hospital but showing daily signs of recovery, officers say.
Terry was shot twice in the head June 23 by Kelly Wark, 34, of Provo, during a traffic stop at 1000 E. Main in Lehi. Wark was shot to death by officers.
"Captain Terry is steadily improving," said Lehi Police Sgt. Darren Paul. "He's still in the hospital, working with the doctors and with his family ... and showing daily progress."
Terry was taken via medical helicopter to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center, where he had surgery to remove bullet fragments from above his left ear.
For those who want to help support Terry and pay his mounting medical bills, a fund has been set up through Central Bank. Those wanting to donate can visit any branch and make a donation in Terry's name.
Officers still don't have many answers about what caused the shooting. Wark's family said she had struggled with mental illness for years and had moved to Utah to get a fresh start.
Autopsy and toxicology reports are still not finished and may take several more weeks.
