Woman dies near Delicate Arch
Emergency dispatchers received a 911 call Tuesday afternoon about a woman down near Delicate Arch inside Arches National Park. The Grand County Sheriff's Office said that while dispatchers talked the caller through CPR procedures for the next half hour, paramedics and National Park Service rangers made the hike to the scene.
The woman was pronounced dead after attempts to revive her were unsuccessful, deputies said.
"The woman is a 53-year-old visiting from (Quimper) France with two friends, were hiking to the Delicate Arch," Grand County Sheriff's deputy Louis Manson said in a statement on Wednesday. "At the time she went down they were separated and she was discovered by four young adults, who ran to the arch asking for someone with a cell phone to call 911."
The cause of death remains under investigation, but deputies said there is no indication of foul play.
"At this time, it is believed to be heat or medical related," Manson wrote.
Temperatures have been near 100-degrees in the Moab area.
