MT. PLEASANT, Sanpete County — A girl died in a weekend all-terrain vehicle accident when she and another girl rolled off a mountainside and into a fast-moving creek.

The Sanpete County Sheriff's Office said two girls were riding an ATV in Pleasant Creek Canyon Saturday when their four-wheeler drove off the roadway and down a 30-foot hill into a creek.

"One of the girls was partially trapped under the four-wheeler in the water. She was able to free herself from underneath the four-wheeler and was taken to Sanpete Valley Hospital for treatment," the sheriff's office said in a statement. "The driver of the four-wheeler was washed downstream by the fast current of the creek."

The sheriff's office refused to release the names, ages or hometowns of the girls.
