CEDAR CITY — A cat was injured in a house fire that severely damaged a home here.

The blaze broke out about 10 a.m. Monday at a home near 75 S. Casa Loma, firefighters said.

"It appears the fire started out on the deck, worked its way up the back side of the house to the attic," said Cedar City Fire Marshal Mike Phillips. "When we got on scene the whole back of the house was on fire."

A family of five escaped without injury. A cat was found inside, suffering from smoke inhalation but is expected to survive. The fire caused about $200,000 damage to the home.

An exact cause of the fire has not been determined, Phillips said.
