OGDEN An empty SUV ran over a girl's legs and hit a man on a park bench before splashing into Pineview Reservoir on Saturday afternoon.
Police say two teen girls were standing outside a 1996 Isuzu Rodeo on the northwest side of the lake when one of the girls put her foot on the clutch and the other turned the key, causing the vehicle to lunge forward.
A 15-year-old girl was knocked down on the driver's side of the car and the rear tire ran over her legs, said Weber County Sheriff's Sgt. Dave Creager. A 16-year-old girl on the passenger side tried to press the brake pedal with her hand but eventually bailed out of the car.
The Rodeo went down an embankment, missing a number of trees, before hitting a 51-year-old man who was sitting on a park bench reading a book, Creager said. The crash launched the man into the lake, police said.
The SUV also ended up completely underwater, Creager said. No one was seriously injured.
