OREM An 18-year-old man is recovering after crashing his motorcycle in the brush on the west side of Utah Lake just after 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Luke Davies, 18, of Pleasant Grove, was discovered near state Route 68 by a male driver of a pickup who used Davies' cell phone to contact Davies' father, who then called police. The caller wasn't certain about his exact location other than that he was between the lake and the highway, according to Utah County Sheriff's Sgt. Spencer Cannon.
Emergency crews were called out to search for the crash around 7:30 p.m. and found the location in 10 minutes, Spencer said. Utah Highway Patrol and Utah County crews both assisted in the search. After receiving the call, Davies' father also went out to search for his son along the road.
Initially AirMed was dispatched to help in search and rescue efforts, but called off when searchers found the man before the aircraft lifted off. In the end, AirMed was dispatched to the area to transport the victim to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center because of a possible broken wrist and head injury. Spencer said a 15-20 minute search for a crash or a victim is not uncommon for that area of the county. He also said it was unclear whether Davies was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
