South Salt Lake police said a man walked into the TransWest Credit Union at 39 W. 2100 South shortly after 5 p.m. Friday, forced those inside to the floor at gunpoint, demanded cash and fled the building.
Police spokesman Gary Keller said witnesses told police they saw the suspect, described as an African American male of average build, between 5'8" and 6'0", wearing white shorts, a white shirt and a white "wrap" around his face, jump a fence at an apartment complex adjacent to the credit union and drive away in a black Jeep Cherokee.
Keller said the vehicle did not have license plates, but a temporary tag with the expiration date of 7-14-08 was visible in the rear window. The vehicle was last seen heading south from the scene.
Keller asked that anyone with information contact South Salt Lake police at 840-4000, but warned that no one should approach the suspect, who is considered armed and dangerous.
