The military played an important role in the old West, and that role will be celebrated at Historic Military Days at the American West Heritage Center this Friday and Saturday. It will feature old-fashioned military camps and exploratory activities ranging from the days of the Mormon Battalion to the Civil War and World War I.
Special guests will be re-enactors of the Mormon Battalion, who will set up a special interactive camp. There will also be Gatling gun and vintage cannon demonstrations, as well as a look at life on the home front during World War I.
There will also be a special military dinner, with buffet and wagon ride, tonight at 6 p.m.
Active military and veterans will get in free to Military Days and will get a discount for the dinner. For more information and a schedule of events, call 435-245-6050 or visit www.awhc.org. Admission to the center, located along Highway 89-91 in Wellsville, is $7 for adults, $5 for children and senior citizens.
