ST. GEORGE — Hundreds of Mexican nationals seeking diplomatic services were turned away during a traveling Mexican consulate's first visit to southern Utah in three years.

Consul officials who arranged appointments for 250 families had to call on police to disperse hundreds of others at the St. George Catholic Church.

The consulate provides identity papers or passports and helps parents apply for dual citizenship for children born in the United States.

Projecto Latino de Utah director Tony Yapias says families who couldn't be served on Saturday will have to make an appointment to show up at the Mexican consulate in Salt Lake City.
