LOGAN — Drug tests will continue at the Cache County public schools but with a few changes.

The Cache County Board of Education has decided not to require all students participating in after-school activities to be tested for drugs. Instead, participating students will be subject to random testing.

The new rules also require someone from the Bear River Health Department to be in the bathroom when urine samples are collected.

The Cache County School District recently ended its first year testing thousands of students. Only one student at the district's high schools was found to be using illegal drugs.

The number of positive results was so low that district officials said many students might have been cheating on their urine tests.
