St. Mark's to donate $300,000 toward Westminster science center

Westminster College announced Thursday that St. Mark's Hospital will contribute $300,000 toward building the new Meldrum Science Center on campus.

The anatomy and physiology lab within the $25 million facility will carry the name of the hospital, which is a member of the HCA MountainStar Healthcare network. St. Mark's Hospital and Westminster have collaborated since 1949.

"We are impressed by the top-notch education the college provides, and the innovative ways in which their students learn," said Steven B. Bateman, chief executive officer of St. Mark's. "When we hire Westminster nurses, we know they share our commitment to making patients the highest priority."

Ground was broken for the 60,000 square foot, four-story, LEED-certified Meldrum Science Center last month. It is expected to be complete in the spring of 2010.
