A 16-year-old Uintah County boy died at a Salt Lake hospital Thursday after being transferred in critical condition Wednesday following a swimming accident.

Ryan K. O'Driscoll, Tridell, was pulled under water while swimming with a friend in the Steinaker Reservoir feeder canal, southwest of Steinaker State Park. Three employees of the Uintah Water Conservancy District heard cries for help from the boy's friend who was not able to give aid and nearly went under water himself. The UWCD employees were able to get both of the youths out of the water and performed CPR on O'Driscoll until emergency responders arrived. The boy was treated at Ashley Regional Medical Center then transferred by helicopter to Salt Lake City.
