At age 29, Brandt Andersen is living an entrepreneur's dream: With profits in hand from the sale of an earlier, successful start-up, he decided that one goal — finding interesting, creative projects — would guide the choices he made for the next stage in his life.

The result is G Code Ventures, the Provo-based firm that owns two major Utah County real-estate developments and the Utah Flash, part of the National Basketball Association's Development League.

While still attending Brigham Young University in 1999, Andersen founded uSight, which provided tech products and services to small businesses.

In 2004, Andersen sold a portion of the rapidly growing firm, and because it seemed a safe investment over time, poured resources into The Lakes at Sleepy Ridge, a high-end development surrounding The Links at Sleepy Ridge, a public golf course.

He also owns land for a planned Lehi project set to include a wakeboarding lake, mixed retail and office space, housing, a five-star hotel and the tallest building in Utah. He even attracted world-renowned architect Frank Gehry for the project.

But to scratch his competitive itch, and feed his love for basketball, he also founded the Utah Flash, Provo's D-League team, which plays at Utah Valley State College's McKay Events Center.

Story continues below
Andersen wants each of his projects to "set the standard," whether it is designing the most environmentally friendly community in the state or finding new and creative ways to take advantage of the Flash's affiliation with the Utah Jazz.
