MormonTimes.com: Florida swimmer values LDS faith above all

Swimmer Megan Sands knows what it's like to push herself to a first-place finish.

She also knows what it's like to give up Sunday competition so she can attend her LDS Church meetings.

Sands, who just finished her freshman year at Indian River Community College in Fort Pierce, Fla., took first place in the 1,650 freestyle at the 2008 Women's National Junior College Athletic Association swimming and diving national championship, held in March at her college. Her time was a personal best of 17:29.80. She also placed second in the 500 freestyle and fifth in the 200 freestyle.

She was surprised that her winning time was that good.
