High school track: Stewart, other Utahns shine in N.M.
Stewart tore up the field in the 400-meter dash, finishing in 53.55 seconds, and that was only part of her amazing day in New Mexico. She also won the 4x800-meter relay in 9:05.61, placed fourth in the 4x100 with a 46.73 and had a fourth-place 11.9-second 100-meter dash Stewart was responsible for 32 Utah points.
Also, twin sister Nachelle won the 800-meter run in 2:12:06. Bountiful's Nichole Knighton won the hammer throw with a distance of 136 feet, 7 inches and Candus Aiello of Riverton took fifth with a throw of 87-8.
Other scorers for Utah:
BOYS: Mountain View's Travis Fuller was the lone winner, finishing the 1,500-meter run in 4:05.55. A strong last lap helped the Bruins' star seal the deal in the event. Other scorers included: Josh Shrewbury (Kearns) in the 2,000-meter steeplechase, Spencer Fausett (Spanish Fork) and Russ Nelson (Juab) in the javelin, Bryce Hall (Davis) in the hammer throw and the shot put, Jon Goble (Fremont) in the 110-meter high hurdles, Gorden Garrett (Grand), Marcus Payne (Cottonwood) and Tyler Goodwin (Timpview) in the 100-meter dash, the 4x100 relay consisting of Garrett, Payne, Goodwin and Ryan Avery (Davis), Jeff Daw (Skyline) in the 400-meter dash, and Garrett and Matt White (Fremont) in the 200-meter dash.
