LEHI After watching New Zealand and Australia dominate pool play during the first day of the STIHL Timbersports Series at Thanksgiving Point, Americans led the way during the final day of competition on Saturday.
Four U.S. lumberjacks advanced to the next round in Georgia after claiming half of the eight qualifying slots up for grabs.
West Virginia resident Arden Cogar Jr. was the top U.S. performer, claiming the top spot in Pool D after winning three events. Cogar won the springboard (49.28 seconds), single buck (13.68) and hot saw (7.63) to tally 41 points.
Other American qualifiers included William Roberts and Mike Sullivan claiming the third and fourth spot in Pool D, respectively and Mike Forrester, who was the third-place finisher in Pool C.
New Zealand's Dion Lane topped Pool C with three event wins as well. He accumulated 41 points after winning the stock saw (12.03 seconds), single buck (11.02) and hot saw (8.43). Derek Knutson won the speed climb final with a climb of 12.85 seconds. Shana Martin prevailed in the boom run final after clocking in at 22.21 seconds.
