Cache School District has received a $134,990 federal grant for school-based random student drug-testing programs.
Cache was the only Utah district to receive one of the grants, which totaled $5.8 million in 20 states
Officials said that in recent years the demand for student drug-testing has outpaced the Department of Education's grant program, which has totaled $40 million since 2003.
Random student drug testing programs test students who opt into the drug testing program with their parents' consent and participate in extracurricular activities.
More than 4,000 schools nationwide have implemented a random student drug testing program to promote a healthy learning environment.
