HILL AIR FORCE BASE — Security officials are searching for a case containing a dozen M-16 rifles that went missing on the base Tuesday afternoon.

"Determining the whereabouts of these missing weapons is currently our top priority," Col. Linda Medler, the 75th Air Base Wing commander, said in a prepared statement Wednesday. "It's possible the rifles fell off a government vehicle while being moved from one location on the base to another."

A base spokesman said he could not comment further on the incident while it remained under investigation.

Local law enforcement and base investigators are working together to find the 12 missing rifles, officials said. Anyone with information is asked to contact base security at 801-777-1852.
