It will cost less for local DirecTV subscribers to see The mtn. than it will for subscribers in most of the country, but the Mountain West Conference's channel will be available across the nation.
The satellite TV provider has announced details of its plans to add The mtn. on Aug. 27. It will be less expensive for subscribers in the MWC's "footprint" the states of Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, Wyoming as well as the San Diego and Dallas/Fort Worth television markets.
The mtn. will be on Channel 616 and will be included in DirecTV Choice the company's most popular programming package as well as more expensive packages.
(According to the company, it is running a special on DirecTV Choice. It is currently available at $29.99 per month for the first 12 months to new subscribers; it is normally priced at $52.99 a month.)
Outside the Mountain West Conference footprint, DirecTV customers will have to pay for the Sportspack. The price varies from region to region, but it costs up to $12 per month in addition to the cost of regular programming packages.
When it launches on DirecTV, it will be the first time The mtn. will be available to viewers throughout the country.
There is still no word on negotiations to add The mtn. to the other satellite TV provider, Dish Network.
