Obama should appeal to LDS

As I reflect on the remarkable and soul-stirring address given by Barack Obama as he clinched the Democratic Party nomination, I have to wonder how so many of my fellow Utahns will still probably vote lemminglike along Republican lines. What is it about the Obama message that is so off-putting to LDS Utahns? Actually I would think it is the exact message to which we LDS members would gravitate in great numbers.

The great heroes of the Book of Mormon are not seen in our modern-day Republicans. Those heroes were dramatic, passionate men of change — unafraid of cultural or political convention and affixed tightly to principal, truth and charity. They were visionary men.

Why have we strayed from our emotional and spiritual roots?
