It is essential that the state treasurer have investment experience and expertise. The state treasurer is entrusted with the sole responsibility to invest and manage the permanent state school fund. The law requires that these funds be invested and managed with skill and judgment.
The state school fund today has a value of $886 million, thanks to good investment and management. In addition, the state treasurer sits on the Utah Retirement Board and the State Bonding Commission and is chairman of the Charter School Financing Authority, to name just a few of the responsibilities.
There is an eminently qualified candidate for state treasurer, and that is Richard Ellis. He deserves the support of all Republicans on June 24.
Thanks to Ed Alter for many years of superb service as the current state treasurer of Utah.
