PROVO Proceeds from an eBay auction of Miley Cyrus concert tickets will go to benefit the Lopez family. Two of the Lopez's children 7-year-old Daniel and 8-year-old Jennifer died May 18 in an automobile accident in Provo Canyon.
John Curtis, owner of Provo-based Action Target, and his wife, Sue Curtis, a member of the Provo Board of Education, said they have put up five tickets to Stadium of Fire the crowning event of America's Freedom Festival at Provo.
Curtis said he and his wife were moved by the tragedy and wanted to help the family.
"They're people in our community who had some ill fortune," Curtis said. "I guess that tugged enough at our heartstrings to want to help."
Daniel and Jennifer, both students at Farrer Elementary School in Provo at 100 N. 600 East, were ejected from a red 2003 Pontiac Grand Am when it was broadsided on a left-hand turn by an eastbound white truck near Vivian Park in Provo Canyon on U.S. 189. The two children, who were not wearing seat belts, died at the scene of the wreck.
A fund has been set up in the children's names at Washington Mutual at 310 N. University Ave., Suite 100 in Provo, or any branch, to help with funeral expenses. Curtis said all proceeds from the auction of the Stadium of Fire tickets will go to the Lopez family.
The tickets can be found by going to www.eBay.com and searching for "Lopez family." This year's Stadium of Fire features teen-pop star Miley Cyrus, performing artists the Blue Man Group and emcee Glenn Beck.
