WASHINGTON CITY — A man was arrested over the weekend after police say he threw several kittens out of truck and ran over one of them.

A 23-year-old man was spotted tossing the 3-week-old kittens, throwing one of them more than 10 feet into some bushes, according to a statement from the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

The kitten found in the bushes was severely injured and did not survive a surgery to repair its legs. Another kitten was killed after being run over by the suspect's truck, police said. A third kitten was uninjured.

"This incident was horrible," Chief Deputy Rob Tersigni said in a prepared statement. "We want people to realize that if they are going to behave this way, there will be consequence."

The suspect was booked into the Washington County Jail on suspicion of three counts of animal cruelty, a third-degree felony.
