Drowning deaths in Utah

According to the Utah Department of Health:

• 35 children and young adult ages 19 and younger died by drowning in 2003 through 2005.

• 18 of the deaths occurred in open bodies of water such as lakes and rivers.

Where drowning occurred:

• Open body of water, 50 percent

• Residential pool, 9 percent

• Bathtub, 9 percent

• Commercial pool, 9 percent

• Other, 23 percent
