Salt Lake Bees: Efficient Bees beat Portland
Of those Bees' hits, four were for home runs in a 5-4 victory over the Beavers, snapping a three-game losing streak.
Kendry Morales hit a solo shot in the second, and two batters later, Dee Brown belted a two-run homer as the Bees erased an early 2-0 deficit and never looked back.
Matt Brown joined the home-run parade with a solo blast in the fourth, and Adam Morrissey added a solo homer in the fifth. It was Morrissey's first homer of the season.
With the victory, the Bees (33-14) picked up a another game on second-place Portland, which is now nine games back in the Pacific Coast League Pacific Northern Division.
"I think the concentration level for everybody was high," Salt Lake manager Bobby Mitchell said. "We were kind of in a tail spin and we needed to get out of it and took the bull by the horns."
It was only Salt Lake's third win in its last 10 games.
Righthander Nick Green was the benefactor of the Salt Lake homers. He allowed four runs (all earned) over six innings while striking out seven while walking just one in picking up his first victory since May 1.
Mitchell agreed.
"He has struggled in his last two, and he came in today and I thought he was determined to do better. He had more intensity on the mound and kept the ball down a lot better."
He allowed two first-inning runs, and then was nails for the next four. He allowed just one hit and fanned six, including the side in the fourth.
He also retired the side in order in the second and the fifth, and faced just four hitters in the third.
In the sixth, the Beavers tagged Green for two runs a two-run homer by Peter Ciofrone in the sixth.
Salt Lake's bullpen held Green's win.
Jason Bulger didn't allow a hit and fanned two in the seventh, while Darren O'Day retired the side in order in the eighth and ninth for his third save since May 15.
Morales was the only Salt Lake player with multiple hits, going 2-for-4.
