It is highly commendable that both Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. and his newly formed Globally Competitive Workforce Steering Committee have recognized that creating a world-class work force all starts with education.
As this committee goes forward, it will be critical to remember that our fastest-growing student population is Hispanics most of whom are legal U.S. citizens, whether their parents are or not.
This population will play a significant role in Utah's future. For this reason, it would behoove this committee and all groups associated with education to advocate for educators who are well prepared and educated to be effective with all Hispanic learners.
