Elder J. Thomas Fyans, an emeritus general authority of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, died yesterday evening May 18, 2008 at his home after celebrating his much anticipated 90th birthday with family members on Saturday. The cause of death was incident to age. Funeral services are pending.
Elder Fyans was called to be a member of the First Quorum of the Seventy on 1 October 1976 after previously serving two and one-half years as an Assistant to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and nearly seven years as a Regional Representative of the Twelve. He served as a member of the Presidency of the Seventy from October 1976 until October 1985 and as president of the St. George, Utah Temple from August 1992 until September 1995. Elder Fyans became an emeritus member of the Quorum of the Seventy in 1989.
