From Deseret News archives:

Raising Salt Lake fees is crazy

I read in disgust Mayor Ralph Becker's desire to increase fees (raise taxes) in many areas of Salt Lake City — including raising parking fines from $100 to $105 and raising the cost of burying a loved one. Is he crazy? A parking ticket in Sacramento is $35. I realize Becker is a Democrat, which means he has to raise taxes or fees (it's in his blood), but with this economy the residents of Utah do not need higher fees. I hope the City Council does not buy into this.
