SANDY — Police believe speed was likely a factor in an early morning accident in which an 18-year-old driver rolled his SUV near 8600 South and Highland Drive.

About 5:00 a.m. the teen missed a turn, rolled down an embankment and over a tree, barely missing a cement sound barrier and ending up in the yard of a home.

It took rescue crews about 30 minutes to get him out of the vehicle. The teen was flown by medical helicopter to University Hospital in critical condition. Drugs and alcohol did not appear to be factors, said Sandy Police Sgt. Victor Quezada.
