Obituary: MCARTHUR, WAYNE MORRIS

Wayne Morris McArthur1949 ~ 2012St. George, UT Wayne Morris McArthur, 63, died on February 7th, 2012 after a long battle with Lou Gehrig's disease (ALS) and a rare type of dementia (FTD). He was born on January 13, 1949 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Brigham Keith McArthur and Charlotte Morris McArthur. He married Janet Murri in the Salt Lake City Temple on March 23, 1973. Wayne grew up in St. George, UT. He was very proud of his Dixie heritage and of his father's Utah National Guard military service as Sergeant "Mac" of the St. George Armory. He followed in his father's footsteps by joining the Utah National Guard, serving in the 222nd. He graduated from Dixie High in 1967 and Dixie College in 1972. He served as Student Body President at both schools. He served an LDS mission in Uruguay/Paraguay. He graduated from Utah State University with a degree in Civil & Environmental Engineering in 1974 and obtained an MBA from BYU in 1976. He worked for the Exxon Corporation for 10 years and later as the Water and Power Director for the City of St. George for 17 years. He taught at Dixie College for a short time and ended his career serving as a Lieutenant Colonel for the US Army in various posts from Japan to Cuba, including 3 years in the Pentagon. He was an Eagle Scout and volunteered with the Scouting program for much of his life. He was an avid runner and health advocate. He loved his family, was active in the LDS church, and he truly lived a lifestyle of "A penny saved is a penny earned". He is survived by his wife, Janet McArthur; his children, LoriAnn (Joe) Cottam (St. George, Utah), Douglas (Emily) McArthur (Houston, Texas), Jenny (Colter) Barnes (Kokhanok, Alaska), John (Fei) McArthur (Glendale, California), Steven (Lena) McArthur (San Diego, California), and Nathan (Rosanna) McArthur (St. George, Utah); 13 grandchildren; and his three sisters: Sharon Angus, Christine McArthur, and Suzanne Roper.Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 10th at 2:00 p.m. at the Bloomington LDS Stake Center, 1130 East Brigham Road, St. George, Utah. There will be a visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 9th, 2012 at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd., and from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. on Friday, February 10th prior to services at the Bloomington LDS Stake Center.
