Lawrence Robert "Bill" JohnsonApr. 29, 1921 ~ Feb. 8, 2012Lawrence Robert "Bill" Johnson passed away February 8, 2012 in Payson, Utah after struggling with health problems. Lawrence was born in Draper, Utah, April 29, 1921 to Nels Mickel and Annie Lena Burckhart Johnson. He attended Jordan High School.Lawrence married Bernice Durrant Johnson in the Salt Lake Temple on October 18, 1943. He served in the United States Armed Forces during World War II as a medic and helped liberate a concentration camp in Germany. He and Bernice moved to Payson, Utah, in 1946. Together they raised, taught and loved five children. Lawrence and Bernice served as temple workers for two years from 1987 - 1989. He worked as a farmer, various other jobs and received a 30-year retirement from US Steel Corporation.Dad loved kids, picnics, parades, reciting poetry and singing songs. He authored two books and composed the lyrics to a beautiful gospel song. A jack of all trades, he could fix almost anything. He was a carpenter, brick mason, cement finisher, and all-around builder.He was an active member of the LDS Church and held many church callings, the last of which was an assistant stake clerk, a position he loved dearly.The legacy of family he leaves behind includes his children Bonnie Jean (Bub) Riding, Salem; Alan Robert (Norma Rae) Johnson, Payson; Shauna Lee (Terry) Jones, Santaquin; Kyle Dee (Kathy) Johnson, Orem; Lori Ann (Glen) Holman, Payson; twin sister Florence Jacobson, and sisters Vera Slaymaker and Bonnie Lawson; 29 grandchildren; 61 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 61 years, parents, 12 siblings, and a grandson.Funeral services will be Saturday, February 11, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in the Payson Beehive Chapel, 930 West 1580 South, Payson. Friends may call at the Walker Mortuary, 587 South 100 West, Payson, Friday, 6-8:00 p.m., or at the church Saturday, 8:45-9:45 a.m. Interment will follow at Payson City Cemetery.
