Obituary: TEW, ELVA CORINNE ASHBY

Elva Corinne Ashby Tew1926 ~ 2012Elva Corinne Ashby Tew, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2012 at home. Elva was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Clarence and Martha Ashby on April 1, 1926, the oldest of 2 children. She graduated from South High School in Salt Lake City and went to work for Salt Lake Hardware Co. Shortly after the end of World War II, she met a handsome fighter pilot at a USO dance in Salt Lake City and happily married that fly boy, Fred Homer Tew, on September 30, 1949 in the Salt Lake Temple.Fred and Elva made their home in Salt Lake City, and soon began a family that would grow to 2 boys and 3 girls. Elva devoted herself to raising and nurturing her young family. She loved Salt Lake City and enjoyed a special closeness with her mother and father. Elva raised her children to love their family, she was a great example to all who knew her. She was feisty, patient, hardworking, and generous to a fault. Elva was a faithful member of the LDS Church, actively serving and participating throughout her life. She made many close friends in all of the wards she lived in, especially Carriage Lane, and she had many, many fellow bowlers whom she loved and missed dearly. Elva is survived by her five children: Steven Fred Tew, Linda Randle (Mark), Karen Smart (Mike), Kathy Turner(Tim) and Bradley Kenneth Tew. Also survived by 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Fred, infant son Mark, parents, brother "Bud" Ashby, and grandson Jordan. Funeral services Monday, February 6, 2012, at 11:00 am, with a viewing Sunday evening from 6:00-8:00 pm and again on Monday starting at 10:00 am at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3014 S.Highland Dr., Salt Lake City.
