Mike Leavitt is correct that we need to change the nominating process in Utah. While the system he proposes has merit, doing away with the caucus system altogether would be better. However, the problem is greater than just the nominating process. Leaders moved the primary up from the fall to June, when many people are not interested in politics.
They moved the party caucuses up into the winter months (when they used to be in May), and they occur so early that people really don't have a chance to even know who their candidates are. This year, party caucuses are even scheduled before the candidate filing deadline: the Democratic Party caucuses will be three days before the filing deadline, and the Republican caucuses one day before. It is ridiculous.

Utah politicians playing games for their almost annual political purposes. Now, except for the insiders, the people are not happy with the system.
@ Uncle Charles, I have attended caucuses. All the complaints you read about in comments on the topic are true. Just take it to the people rather than have aggressive political organizations run the show on a de facto basis. What's wrong with More..
