Obituary: MURRAY, BETTY LOU NIELSEN

Betty Lou Nielsen MurrayNov. 2, 1929~Jan. 3, 2012Betty Lou Nielsen Murray was born November 2, 1929 in Burley, Idaho to Lewis George Nielsen and Etta Verl Lamb. Her early years were spent on a farm in Burley, Idaho. Following the death of her mother in 1934, Betty moved to Murray, Utah to be raised by her Aunt, Hannah Bell Thornton. She graduated from Murray High School in 1946.At Murray High, Betty met the love of her life, Leo Anthony Murray. They were married on December 14, 1946. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on June 26, 1947. They raised their family of six children in Murray, Utah. While in high school, Betty worked at the Up To Date Bakery. Later, she was employed at Southeast Furniture and at the Cottonwood Hospital where she worked at the Cottonwood Hospital Credit Union, supervised the hospital volunteers, and served as Snack Bar Manager.Betty and Leo lived in several homes in Murray. They loved to build and remodel and then move to a new home and do it again. Betty enjoyed camping and family vacations, playing games, watching the Utah Jazz on TV and family celebrations of any kind. Betty was a kind, caring, joyful and compassionate individual. She was always concerned about the welfare of others. She was an active member of the LDS Church and served in many callings. She had a beautiful voice and enjoyed singing. She will be remembered as loving and witty, with a great sense of humor. Following the passing of her husband Leo in 2002, Betty struggled with Alzheimer's disease and resided in assisted care facilities since 2008.Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Leo and seven siblings. She is survived by her brother Billie Nielsen, her six children Karen (Keith) Snarr, Alan (Ruth) Murray, Scott (Rosie) Murray, David B. (Toni) Murray, Linda (David C.) Webb and Paul (Tammy), Murray, 26 grandchildren, 66 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.Funeral services with be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 9, 2012 at the Little Cottonwood Eighth Ward, 6180 South Glen Oaks St. (852 East), Murray, Utah. Friends may visit with the family Sunday evening, January 8, 2012 from 5-7 p.m. at the Jenkins-Soffe South Valley, 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway (10600 South), South Jordan, Utah, and at the Church from 9:30 10:30 a.m. on Monday. Interment will be at the Murray City Cemetery.
