Rebecca Joy Lyman Spencer Brown1925 ~ 2011Rebecca Joy Lyman Spencer Brown, 86, of Washington NJ, formerly of Nutley NJ and Salt Lake City Utah, passed away Monday, December 19 in Barn Hill Care Center in Newton NJ. She was married for 52 years to the late Vincent DePaul Brown, who passed away in 1996.Born in Salt Lake City, Utah in June 1925, Rebecca was a daughter of the late Victor Hugo Lyman and Lucy Sanborn Spencer, a great-granddaughter of Brigham Young and Lucy Bigelow Young, and a step-daughter of the late Raymond G. Spencer and Bernice Park Spencer. A June 1942 graduate of Granite High School, she worked as an airplane mechanic at the US Army base at Hill Field, Utah during World War II. As a USO hostess in SLC she met and married Vincent, then a GI with the US Army medical corps stationed at Fort Douglas, Utah. After moving to NJ, she assembled radio tubes for RCA in Harrison and worked in sales and accounting at Hahnes Department Store in Newark. In the 1950s she attended Rutgers University in Newark as an English Literature major and later the Sobelsohn School in NYC, ever an A student. In Nutley and Washington, NJ she and her husband raised seven children and actively enjoyed their five grandchildren. She had a wide range of interests and talents, especially music and art, and was a gifted pianist and painter.Rebecca is survived by two sons, Steven A. Brown of Millville NJ and James H. Brown of Stroudsburg PA; five daughters, Julia E. Brown of Nutley NJ, Paula M. Brown of Union City NJ, Susanna Z. Brown-Sanitate of Lakewood NJ, Nancy A. Steele of Washington NJ, and Melissa M. Brown-Blaeuer of Hewitt NJ; and five grandchildren, Alexander J. Brown, Nicholas V. Brown, Ariana S. Blaeuer, Allison E. Steele and Amanda L. Steele. She is also survived by siblings, Lucy Tucker and David, Robert and Claire Spencer of Utah , and George Lyman of California .A viewing will be held on Thursday, Dec. 22 from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Warren Hills / Ford Funeral Home, Washington NJ . Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. Friday, followed by interment at Old Tennent Cemetery in Manalapan NJ , followed by a luncheon to be announced.IN LIEU OF FLOWERS: As desired, donations may also be made to the Washington Emergency Squad, 100 Belvidere Ave, Washington NJ 07882Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Warren Hills Memorial Home. 234.
