Melva Lee Nickell Burbidge11/6/1929 ~ 12/5/2011Melva Lee Nickell Burbidge, 82, passed away peacefully December 5, 2011 surrounded by family and loved ones. She was born in Vernal, Utah on November 6, 1929 to Blaine and Florence Horrocks Lee. Melva married James Clifton Nickell. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in January of 2002. She raised five children; Connie (Leland) Evans, Keith (Margaret) Nickell, Kent (Sandy) Nickell, Karen (Bill) Berg, and Kaye Searle. She will continue to be an example of faith, compassion, hard work, and courage to her family and all who knew her. Melva had many gifts and talents, one being her genuine love for children. Acknowledging this gift she served as a nurse at Primary Children's Hospital for many years, and later established a daycare business in her home. She has always had a special connection with children.Melva has a deep love for her Savior, and has served faithfully in many callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Melva has always had a love for the temple and she cherished the time she served there. Melva was also an active member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She loved creating crafts. She became very skilled in the arts of crocheting, knitting, and Swedish weaving. She is known for her beautiful handmade gifts. If you know Melva, you know she is always dressed to the nines, sporting one of her signature hats, and never late! She is an exceptionally beautiful woman inside and out.She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James Clifton Nickell (September 1, 1961), three brothers, Roy Lee, James Lee, and Douglas Lee, one grandchild, Brent, and three great-grandchildren, Ryan, BrentLee, and Bradley. Melva is survived by her three siblings; Robert (Irene) Lee, Howard (Eunice) Lee, and Carol (Larry) Madsen, her five children, fifteen grandchildren, thirty-six great-grandchildren, and ten great great-grandchildren.Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 13, at 10:00 A.M. in the LDS chapel located at 700 W. 11400 S., South Jordan. A viewing will be held on Monday, December 12, at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley located at 1007 W. Jordan Parkway, South Jordan from 6:00-8:00 P.M., and Tuesday morning at the church from 9:00-9:45 A.M.
