Summary

Even though the game is being played in December, and even though BYU is a heavy favorite over Utah, the Cougars are expecting an emotional battle when the arch-rivals collide today at the Huntsman Center.

  • BYU's win was ugly, glamorless

"The danger of this game (against Utah) to me is that it's right behind another really emotional game (Weber State)," Rose said. "We need to get ourselves at the same level we were emotionally the other night, prepared to play a hard-fought, competitive game."

Last year's game at the Huntsman Center was memorable as former Cougar Jimmer Fredette scored 32 points in the first half — capped by a half-court shot at the buzzer — and finished with 47 points. That performance essentially launched Jimmermania onto the national scene in a game that BYU won, 104-79.

"Honestly, I just remember Jimmer's night," Abouo said. "It was a great win for us. Our team really played well. But obviously that was a special night. I remember all the hype on TV afterwards."

NOTES: Forward Chris Collinsworth is scheduled to undergo knee surgery on Tuesday, Rose said. … The Cougars have won five in a row over the Utes and four of the last five at the Huntsman Center. … BYU leads the all-time series, 127-125, with a 50-73 record in Salt Lake City.

I'm thinking first half score BYU 54 - Utah 10, but the moral victory that Chris B. will bring from this is Utah will come back in the second half with a three pointer to start the half. But still final score will be BYU 93 - Utah 41.
