Obituary: CARTER, JOHN BILLY

John Billy CarterSigurd, UtahJohn Billy Carter, 87, passed away December 8, 2011 with family near him. He was born September 2, 1924 in Sigurd, Utah to John Brown and Ila Margret Jensen Carter. Billy grew up in Sigurd and graduated from Richfield High School. He joined the Army in World War II, transferring to the Air Force Signal Air Warning Battalion and played a key role during the Battle of Iwo Jima. After returning from the war, Billy worked at the Titanium plant in Henderson, Nv and 43 years with Georgia Pacific Corp, in Sigurd.Billy married Leah Jane Jorgensen, January 23, 1946 in Las Vegas, NV and were later sealed in the Manti LDS Temple. He loved his family, enjoyed taking them fishing, boating, and camping. He enjoyed prospecting and making jewelry, which he then gave away.Survivors include his wife Leah; children Jeanette Carter Veater Nelson, and Stan (Wendy) Carter; grandchildren, Christine Veater Tucker, Michael John Veater, Aaron Cheshire, Nicholas Carter and great-grandchildren, Heather and Samantha Tucker, Cory and Dillan Veater, Parker, Brysen and Cole Cheshire; sister-in-law, Gae Carter. He is preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Carma (Eddie) Manwell, Nola (Abe) Lund, Charlie (Bessie) Carter, Donna (Wendel) Parsons, Derild Carter, Leon Carter, Margo (Glen) Adams, Don Perry (Joan) Carter. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 10, 2011 at 11:00 am in the Sigurd LDS Ward Chapel. Friends may call at the Magleby Mortuary in Richfield on Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the ward chapel in Sigurd Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Richfield City Cemetery with military rites by the V.F.W Sevier Post #5050.
