WASHINGTON — David Clarkson scored in the fourth round of the shootout, after Johan Hedberg made a pad save on Nicklas Backstrom, and the New Jersey Devils rallied for a 3-2 victory over the Washington Capitals on Saturday night.
Zach Parise also scored for the Devils in the shootout, and Alex Ovechkin connected for Washington.
New Jersey got goals from Petr Sykora and Ryan Carter in the second period to erase a 2-0 deficit. The Devils have won three of four games.
Troy Brouwer and Jason Chimera scored for the Capitals in the first.
Washington coach Bruce Boudreau was denied in his first try at his 200th NHL victory.
BRUINS 6, SABRES 2: At Boston, Tyler Seguin scored twice and had an assist as Boston increased its season-high winning streak to five. Brad Marchand had a goal and two assists, Rich Peverley and Chris Kelly had a goal and an assist each, and Zdeno Chara assisted on two goals for Boston (8-7), which has a winning record for the first time this season.
RED WINGS 5, STARS 2: At Detroit, Johan Franzen, Darren Helm and Brad Stuart scored in the third period for Detroit. With the game tied at 2, Valtteri Filppula drove to the net from the left. After his backhanded attempt, Franzen was on the opposite side to poke the puck across the goal line.
BLUE JACKETS 2, JETS 1: At Columbus, Ohio, rookie Ryan Johansen, a healthy scratch in the previous game, had his first two-goal effort, and Steve Mason made with 35 saves to help struggling Columbus end a three-game losing skid. Johansen has scored the winning goal in all three of Columbus' victories.
HURRICANES 5, PENGUINS 3: At Raleigh, N.C., Eric Staal scored for the first time in a month. Staal converted a rebound with 4:34 remaining, smacking the puck past Brent Johnson to give the Hurricanes a 4-3 lead after they wasted a three-goal advantage. It was Staal's fourth goal of the season and first since Oct. 18.
BLUES 3, LIGHTNING 0: At St. Louis, Brian Elliott stopped 19 shots, and defenseman Kris Russell scored in his St. Louis debut. St. Louis improved to 5-0-1 in its last six home games. The Blues have earned five points in three games under new coach Ken Hitchcock, who replaced Davis Payne on Sunday.
CANADIENS 2, PREDATORS 1 (OT): At Nashville, Tenn., Max Pacioretty scored 2:31 into overtime to lift Montreal over Nashville in front of a sellout crowd. David Desharnais also scored for Montreal and assisted on the game-winner.
SENATORS 5, MAPLE LEAFS 2: At Toronto, Craig Anderson made 31 saves, Nick Foligno scored two goals and Ottawa snapped its five-game losing streak by beating Toronto. Sergei Gonchar, Zack Smith and Milan Michalek added goals for Ottawa, which continues its six-game road trip with a swing through Western Canada next week. The Senators were 0-4-1 in their previous five games.
FLAMES 4, AVALANCHE 3: At Denver, Miikka Kiprusoff made 36 saves, Lee Stempniak had a goal and assist, and Calgary held on to beat Colorado. Jarome Iginla, Paul Byron and Curtis Glencross also scored for the Flames, who have beaten Colorado eight straight times and twice in six days.
Milan Hejduk had a goal and assist, and Matt Duchene and David Jones also scored for the Avalanche, who have lost six of eight home games this season.
Semyon Varlamov stopped 16 shots for Colorado.
Eagles trip Grizzlies
WEST VALLEY CITY — The Colorado Eagles defeated the Utah Grizzlies 3-1 Saturday night at the Maverik Center to snap Utah's five-game home winning streak.
The Grizzlies (9-3) finished the week 2-1 and collected four of six points in their first three meetings of the season with newcomer Colorado, who dominated the CHL from 2003-2011.
