Sounds like both pilots forgot the length of Jackson's runways. If they knew the runway is shorter than O'Hare's, they will have to put up the spoiler flaps just when the wheels touched the tarmac.
A 757 into Jackson? Big airplane for a short, high elevation runway.
That airport shouldn't be there anyway. It has no place inside a national park. But powerful political pressure forced it.
Big money has big power.
Maybe a combination of equipment and pilot error. Sounds like there were problems with thrust reverse, and pilot failure to engage spoiler flaps. I hope it did not end their careers. I'm also glad no one was hurt.
