Joel Conover Jensen1934 ~ 2011Joel Conover Jensen, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend and pilot graduated from mortality on Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at the Alta View Hospital in Sandy, Utah, surrounded by his loving wife Carol, family members and friends.He was born on May 14, 1934, in Ferron, Emery County, Utah in the ranch house of his maternal grandparents, Jesse and Ione Conover, the first child of Maurine Conover Jensen and Joel Peter Jensen. He married his eternal sweetheart, Carol Sorensen on November 6, 1961, later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He graduated from Jordan High School in 1952 and attended the University of Utah before entering the Air Force Aviation Cadet program and receiving his officer's commission and wings as a pilot. He loved to fly and following four years active duty in the Air Force joined Western Air Lines and later joined Delta Air Lines where he was a Captain. He served as a representative of his fellow pilots in the Air Line Pilots Association acting as MEC Chairman from 1982-84. He also enjoyed his service as an officer in the Utah Air National Guard.An active member of the LDS Church, he served as a High Priest in many capacities in various wards where he and Carol and their family lived, and made many friends. He and Carol traveled all over the world and enjoyed visiting many areas. They also enjoyed taking cruises with their family. Nothing was more important to him than his family and the Gospel of Jesus Christ.He was preceded in death by his father, Joel P. Jensen, and his mother, Maurine C. Jensen. He is survived by his wife, Carol; children, Scott Jensen; Cherylann (Max) Johnson; Jolene (Garth) Wolstenholme; Jeffry (Sara) Jensen; Joel (Heather ) Jensen Jr.: Jason (Emily) Jensen; (13) grandchildren: brother Rees (Virginia) Jensen; sister Rosemary (Kent) Evans; brother David (Julie) Jensen; sister Maurine (Scot) Proctor; sister-in-law Christine, and brother-in-law Jeff Reynolds; and sister-in-law DeeAnn, and brother-in-law Dean Reynaud.Funeral services will be held on Friday, Oct. 7 at 12:00 noon, at the South Mountain 7th Ward Chapel, 272 East 14700 South, Draper, Utah. Friends may visit on Thursday, Oct 6, at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950 East 10600 South, Sandy, Utah from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM, and on Friday, Oct. 6 from 10:30 AM 11:30 AM at the chapel before the services. Interment will be at the Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery, 1950 E. 10600 S. in Sandy, Utah. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.larkincares.com.
